Title: Analyst

Seeking an Analyst to be located in Washington, DC, at the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Center (MSC) for review and determination of compliance of Vessel Security Plans (VSP) with Federal Regulations and Maritime Standards. The Vessel Security Division, which is comprised of George G. Sharp, Inc. personnel under the oversight of the MSC Vessel Security Division Chief, is entrusted with the review and approval of vessel security plans (VSP) required by the Marine Transportation Security Act (MTSA) of 2002.

Position Description:
The candidate shall provide program management and technical support to the client in the review of Vessel Security Plan submissions. Performance requirements include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform detailed examination and reviews of submitted security plans, amendments and Ship Security Alert System Annexes independently and as a member of a review team. Evaluate findings and develop written comments based on the results of the review for the use of a facilitator when contacting the initial submitter.


  • Participate and provide technical support review of the security plans in the area of Quality Assurance (QA) with the QA Team. Submit comments sheets, ensuring all items missing from the security plan are identified correctly.


  • Function in a facilitator capacity and as a member of the Facilitator Team, engage the Submitter of the security plan and resolve deficiencies found within the security plan. Respond to any questions and provide the Submitter with a single point of contact to assist them successfully through the approval process.


  • Prepare submission of documents for placement in files, update the Microsoft Access Metrics Tracking Database, perform data entry tasks in the USCG MISLE Database, including creating new records, attaching files, inserting notes and closing the record when the task is complete. Scan paper vessel security plans and convert electronic vessel security plans into Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Assist with the writing and maintaining of work instructions and procedures. Assist the Program Manager with any special tasks that may arise.


  • Position Requirements:
    Bachelors Degree in Arts or Sciences from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.

    The candidate must have good computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel and Outlook.

    Secret clearance required.

    Salary commensurate with experience.
